What is an Indian Medical Visa?
India's Medical Visa (also called MED Visa) is a special visa category designed specifically for foreigners who seek medical treatment in India. It is issued to patients coming for allopathic, homeopathic, naturopathic, or other recognized medical treatments from recognized/reputed hospitals in India.
The Medical Attendant Visa (MED-X) is issued to the accompanying family members — up to two attendants can accompany the patient.

All existing diagnoses, lab reports, imaging reports, and doctor notes
Hospital Letter
Confirmation letter from a recognized Indian hospital or clinic
Proof of Funds
Bank statements or proof that patient can cover treatment costs
Travel Itinerary
Confirmed flight booking or travel itinerary to India
Accommodation Proof
Hotel booking or accommodation confirmation in India
Visa Application Form
Duly filled and signed Indian visa application form

Fill the Visa Application Form
Complete the online Indian visa application at indianvisaonline.gov.in or at the Indian Embassy/Consulate in your country.
Visit the Embassy / VFS Center
Submit your application and biometrics at the nearest Indian Embassy, Consulate, or VFS Global center.
Receive Your Medical Visa
Processing typically takes 3–5 business days. Once approved, you can travel to India for your treatment.
Important Notes
- A Medical Visa cannot be converted into any other type of visa from within India.
- The visa can be extended by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in case of prolonged treatment.
- Attendant Visa holders cannot work in India during their stay.
- Ensure you register with the FRRO within 14 days of arrival if your stay exceeds 180 days.
- Keep all original medical documents with you at all times during your travel.
